Summer Postcard: Day One

Today I projected "Emma's" Summer Postcard (see this post for a brief run-down) onto the overhead. I inherited a document camera this year (thanks Anne!) and the process is so far much easier. It's like my own personal scanner.

For over 30 minutes I just asked Emma factual questions about the drawing and the student. I don't know her yet, so this was a wonderful opportunity to get to know more about her.

Before the interview, I handed a notebook to a very able student and asked her to take notes of everything we talked about. Then after class I gave it to another student who had been gone for two days at the beginning of the year and asked her to type it up and send to me. I spent less than 5 minutes reading and making minor edits. Now I have tomorrow's group reading. I'm going to set aside about 30 minutes for it. (I plan to spend 15 min with SSR at beginning of class.) I'll ask clarification questions, get more new information about Emma and her friends and the concert, and maybe we'll get crazy and draw a few of the sentences on the board.

In the back of my mind, I'm thinking about a good story I might ask the day after tomorrow that will pair well with this Summer Postcard.

• Emma fue a COTR en jueves, viernes, y sabado

• Llovía mucho el viernes y el concierto paró por una hora

• Kid Rock iba a cantar próximo

• Había muchas personas y cervezas en el suelo

• El concierto de Kid Rock estuvo bueno y a Emma le gusta Kid Rock más que sus amigas

• Profe Tripp vio un concierto de Kid Rock quince años atrás en Council Bluffs

• Emma fue al concierto con Kylie, Nikki, y Alison

• Nikki es la mejor amiga de Emma

• Nikki tiene una cabaña pero no cerca del concerto. Está a treinta minutos del concierto

• Ellos fueron a la cabaña después del concierto y no directamente a dormir todas las noches

• La cabaña es bonita y grande

• Ocho personas pueden dormir en la cabaña

• Chase piensa que Emma y sus amigas comieron papas fritas con queso en COTR

• Amber piensa que el dibujo es un horno y las personas están caminando dentro del horno

• Chase es correcto

• Comieron papas fritas con queso todos los días

• Costaban seis dólares
